We all remember the excitement we felt as Halloween approached and the incredulous joy at a holiday that seemed out of a fairy tale storybook. Free candy? And all we have to do is dress up? Of course there were those awkward teenage years when we were a bit too old to go out but too young to hit the bars and got those disapproving stares from parents as we gluttonously filled our pillowcases. But now that we’re older Halloween means a different kind of candy if your lucky...or more likely stumbling home drunk and friendless in bunny ears.

The Ash Masquerade
Bar Thirteen, 7pm-9pm
From Halloween Night to Fat Tuesday, Complacent Nation will be hosting 121 nights of art, ritual, and wild abandon to “lift the fiasco” from a “lost and cursed” America. These rituals promise to be, “tiny and vast, sincere and preposterous, beautiful and drastic.” It all begins with the Ash Masquerade — a night of fire and brimstone and elaborate walking effigies. Bring the costume and they will bring the parade (to an undisclosed location)! If you’d like to join the parade or build an effigy to burn come to this pre-party party.
