A colleague described her to Crain's as having a "passion for social justice" and getting a "thrill out of producing an elegant budget." Using her predilection for math and her affinity for underprivileged children, Fernandez has risen to COO of The After-School Corp., which supports almost 200 community organizations around the city that keep kids busy with arts and sports after the schools have locked their doors. Not bad for a little girl who dreamed of being an accountant.
