Hott Tickets! with Mike Conklin

Were it not for the constant humming of the sizable team of air conditioners I’ve enlisted to help me ward off the heat, which is really only going to get worse until late August, when I could conceivably give in and become a dude who actually wears shorts, I’d think Christmas were just around the corner. Why? Because the next two weeks are so jam-packed with good shows, it’ll be just like Christmas morning. Only for two weeks. And instead of getting a bunch of gift certificates and sweaters, you’ll get a Cursive show. Or a Camera Obscura show. Are you following? The shows… they’re like presents. Which you get on Christmas. Seriously, it’s too fucking hot for this.

Noteworthy Shows:

7/6 Mates of State at Castle Clinton
Married people harmonizing their way through hooky pop songs, tons of people hoping they argue and divorce on stage.

7/7 Camera Obscura at Bowery Ballroom
‘Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken’ might be the single of the year.

7/9 Les Savy Fav McCarren Park Pool
Stop by Studio B, for the after-party, where The L will be hosting a super fancy VIP room.

7/9 Cursive at Mercury Lounge
Friends tell me their new record kills the last one. Always good live.

7/13 The Weakerthans at Webster Hall
Show was moved from Bowery because tickets sold so fast.

7/15 Siren Festival at Coney Island
I dunno…it’s your call, I guess.

Plus lots more. Check the daily listings or thelmagazine.com
