It was a sad, sad day for cool kids everywhere (in South Brooklyn) when venerable rock venue Northsix shut its doors earlier this year. And even though they told us it was only temporary, it didn’t make the pain any more bearable. “Do they expect us to go to fucking Arlene’s Grocery?” we complained. “Should we check out… Trash?” we wondered. It was tiresome and annoying and, fortunately, the whole silly charade is coming to an end. On September 4, the brand new, completely renovated space will re-open as a venue called the Music Hall of Williamsburg, and while I’m not sure how I feel about the needlessly grandiose name, I’ve got to say, the first batch of shows they’ve announced is pretty fucking serious. Tickets for most shows went on sale last week, so don’t wait too long. And forget about Patti Smith… that shit’s already mega sold out.
9/4 Patti Smith
This we’ve already discussed. Sold out as fuck.
9/8 Vampire Weekend
We loved these dudes a bunch of months ago, and now that the summer’s here, we’ve officially declared it our favorite record of the year. And, oddly, we don’t even think it’s been released.
9/10 Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Well, whatever… you used to like them, and other people still do.
9/14 The Walkmen
Aw, even you still love the Walkmen. The Pussy Cats thing renewed our interest.
9/21 Les Savy Fav
Watch Tim Harrington christen a new venue, possibly by getting naked.
9/27 Medeski, Martin & Wood
They can’t all be winners, right?
9/29 Jose Gonzalez
Close out your month with the smooth-singing, soft-strumming Swede.
