Man, those NYU kids get everything handed to them, don’t they? In addition to receiving an approximately one in one and a half chance of becoming an intern at the always glamorous L Magazine, where ambitious undergrads go to learn exactly how I like my iced mocha from Starbucks (venti, no whipped cream, please), they get first crack at tickets to see all the good shows held at the school. On 10/27 they’ll be out in droves at the Kimmel Center, trying like mad to sneak a peak at the latest in the long, long, annoyingly over-hyped line of Canadian imports, Wolf Parade. You’ll get your chance too, but not until the day of the show, when you’ll be charged $8, two bucks more than students. Sadly, it will be worth it.
Also of note: After releasing the best record of their career, the Clientele visit Maxwell’s on 10/28, and their breezy, stylized pop songs will have you thinking you’re in the middle of London in 1968. As you’ll realize when you step out onto Washington Street, though, you’ll just be in New Jersey. Don’t worry: the PATH is but a few blocks away…
Chances are you’ll be tired from the Halloween fun you had on Saturday night (Check out Magnetic Field’s party, 97 Atlantic Ave), but you’d be wise to try and muster up the energy to head over to the Knitting Factory on All Hallow’s Eve to check out the Mountain Goats and Grizzly Bear. If you’re thinking what I’m thinking, you’re probably pretty excited about the prospect of seeing John Darnielle dressed as a goat, and all of Grizzly Bear dressed as… well, you get it.
