Hott Tickets!

With Mike Conklin

By the morning after the Tuesday, September 9th Deerhunter show at (le) poisson rouge, comment sections will be aflutter with recaps. It will probably have been neither as good as the most excitable commenters will say it was, nor as bad as the bitchier ones will say it was. Business as usual, really. What I’m more interested in, though, is the last time Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox made news, when, while posting links on his blog to free MP3s of a new virtual 7”, he accidentally posted links to an unmastered, working version of a new record by his other band, Atlas Sound, and to some bonus tracks that were going to be released along with a new Deerhunter record that leaked months ago. Someone caught on, re-posted the link, and just like that, Cox lost control of a bunch of his own songs that he hadn’t intended for other people to hear just yet. He’s partially to blame, of course, but the vigor with which the material was passed around was blatantly disrespectful. Far be it from me to speak out against file-sharing, but a line was crossed here, and common decency cast aside.

Also of Note:
9/4  Cordero at Joe’s Pub
Bilingual, Latin-infused indie-rock, for fans of Cat Power, Calexico and Giant Sand.

9/5  Matt Pryor at Bowery Ballroom
I desperately need to know who, in 2008, would go see the dude from the Get Up Kids.

9/7  Silver Jews at Bowery Ballroom
Fresh off the release of the best record they’ve ever put out.
