So, how are your New Year’s resolutions working out? Remember? We spoke about this last time: buying (as opposed to stealing) more records and going to at least one more show per week. Since the New Year, I have purchased Merriweather Post Pavilion and I’m about to pre-order the new M. Ward record. I’m also trying to find a copy of Cosmo’s Factory by Creedence, but I haven’t had any luck. I’ve yet to attend a show in 2009, but cut me some slack, please, since my wife and I are just getting settled in a new apartment in Queens, which is a lesser-known New York City borough located just east of Brooklyn. It’s nice there. You should come visit! We’ll go to a Mets game! Anyway, I will be making good on my resolution with one or all of these shows:
Noteworthy Shows: 1/21 Animal Collective at Bowery Ballroom
This is starting to feel like the Animal Collective Issue as opposed to the Presidential Gym Issue, now isn’t it? I am very, very much ok with this.
1/26 Lady Sovereign at Pianos
Tiny venue, tiny rapper, probably a very big crowd.
1/31 The Thermals at Bell House
With a new record on the way, their first for Kill Rock Stars, expect new songs galore.
1/31 Loney, Dear at Union Hall
Same as above, minus the Kill Rock Stars thing, plus lots of cute Swedish-y stuff.
