Hott Tickets!

Lots of good shows going on this fortnight. Let’s get right to it.

Noteworthy Shows:

2/4 Sondre Lerche at Webster Hall
$27.50 is a lot of money to go see Sondre Lerche, especially when you factor in all those pesky service charges, and especially when you consider that you’ll have to hightail it the fuck up out of there before headliners The Fray go on. Gross.

2/6 Wavves at Market Hotel
Fuzzed-out, fucked-up noise-pop that the blogs have been going batty over. It appears they’ve gotten this one right. “So Bored” is the 90s throwback slacker anthem of ‘09 thus far.

2/7 Cat Power at the Apollo Theater
Chan, you’re starting to worry us with all these covers. You have good taste, yes, but are you struggling with writer’s block and not telling anyone?

2/7 The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
We decided not to run a review of their new record, ‘cause we’ve covered them so, so much over the past year or so, but it’s every bit as good as we wanted it to be.

2/11 Lissy Trullie at Mercury Lounge
90s-style indie-pop with the swagger of the Velvets and the attitude of Chrissie Hynde. A recent obsession for me and lots of other folks.

2/13 Clap Your Hands Say Yeah at BAM
Rumor has it they’re going on an indefinite hiatus after this show, so be on the lookout for lots of dramatic intra-band hugging and dramatic goodbyes. And just like that... originators of blog rock ride of into the sunset. Or at least into the archive section.
