Last week, we almost moved our editorial meeting from our favorite local bar, 68 Jay, to Pedro’s, the local Mexican restaurant that doesn’t make you order food and totally just lets you rock their outdoor seating while drinking millions of Presidentes or Coronas. But at the last minute, we realized we would have been freezing and our papers would have blown all over Dumbo. The point? We were jumping the gun, but not by much. In no time at all, spring will be upon us. And with it will come outdoor concert schedules, our annual 8 NYC Bands You Need to Hear issue, and one very big announcement, which you should look for in the very next issue of The L. But for now, grab your scarf and soak in the last gasps of winter.

I’ve only listened a few times, but I think his new record, Hold Time, is his best yet.
2/21 Noah and the Whale at Music Hall of Williamsburg
Have these guys moved to Brooklyn yet? They really should. I would go see them every single night if I could.
2/22 The Cardinals at The Wellmont Theater
Oh brother, yes, it’s those Cardinals. You know, the backing band for Mandy Moore’s fiancé.
2/26 Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit at Bowery Ballroom
The former Drive By Trucker just released a new record full of somewhat dramatic country-rock. Good stuff.
2/27 The Swirlies at Mercury Lounge
I mean no disrespect, ‘cause I know they’ve continued making music over the years, but for me, the Swirlies’ crowning achievement will always be “Park Your Car by the Side of the Road,” from 1993’s Blonder Tongue Audio Baton. Please download.
