How to Dress Well, the avant-R&B project of local songwriter Tom Krell, just released Total Loss, a record that aims for the stark emotional devastation its title suggests. Live, Krell is a solemn figure, even with a backing band, a mass communicator of suffocating intimacy. He speaks to a lonely darkness that can fester even inside a packed room (and sometimes he uses nifty film projections!).
