For a long time we thought that living in a house designed by an avant-garde architect–say, postmodern Dutch provocateur Rem Koolhas–would just be one long talk show appearance, with famous people and photographers visting and taking pretty pictures of little old us cold chillin’ in our slippers. Then we saw Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine’s Koolhaas HouseLife, the earliest of their four films in this exhibition, and realized that no, trying to keep a house with machine-operated floors, walls and roofs clean and pretty for all those scrupulous guests would be very un-Kool.
