In her new evening-length piece for seven dancers, (x,y,z), Jessica Gaynor explores how different spaces — expansive, cramped, narrow, low-ceilinged — influence and determine the ways we move. Sure, one hopefully doesn't go leaping around a room with low ceiling beams, but here the setting doesn't change; rather the dancers' movements suggest an invisible architecture determining their steps.
