Jim Herbert's paintings are enormous—nine feet by ten feet—and thick with masses of acrylic paint that he applies with his bare hands. He's been painting increasingly graphic sex scenes recently, and has based his latest series on internet porn accessed via his Blackberry, the small, low-resolution format giving him freedom to reduce background details to pure abstraction while extrapolating and exaggerating others.
