Lambchop, Charlie Horse

Thu., April 19, 6:30 p.m. 2012; $20

Kurt Wagner’s Lambchop, as weird and beautiful an American band as we’ve had in the last few decades, is both as weirdly specific and inscrutably vague as it's ever been on one of 2012’s best records, Mr. M. Which would be hard to do simultaneously, you’d think? But this is a man who’s dreamily fused hushed, strummy folk and country with confident, subtly vibrating soul and R&B singing influenced by Curtis Mayfield. Making contradicting things seem natural is sort of his thing. To borrow a lyric, it all ends up as “some cool, pastoral splendor.”
