Little Man

Directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans

A Wayans brothers comedy that holds true to the formula that made 2004's White Chicks a hit, Little Man again places a tough black guy (Marlon Wayans as the vertically challenged jewel thief Calvin) in disguise and in an unfamiliar milieu. Calvin and his dimwitted partner (Tracy Morgan) hurriedly stash a stolen diamond in a passerby's purse, and in order to get it back, they dress Calvin up as a baby and leave him on her doorstep. Vanessa and her husband Darryl (Shawn Wayans) adopt the little one, setting the scene for a wee id to run wild.

While waiting till the time is right to recover his goods, Calvin manages to feed all of his appetites, getting drunk, stealing food, being breast fed, and even acting out a certain oedipal fantasy with his adoptive "mother." Almost never is it possible to achieve the suspension of disbelief necessary for this kind of humor — the best joke happens in the first 10 minutes when a white jewelry saleslady attempts to "talk black" — and the film becomes truly painful when it adds a bit of sentiment to the mix. Avoid at all costs.
