Mac DeMarco, Naomi Punk, Calvin Love, Tonstartsbandht

Fri., March 1, 8 p.m. 2013; SOLD OUT
212–260–4700

Something about Mac DeMarco’s notorious stage-side shenanigans reminds us that he’s sort of like that stoner from your high school woodshop class—the kind of guy who’d flaunt a burp onstage and do so out of apathy rather than irony. Whisper-worthy CMJ folklore aside, DeMarco’s music delivers on its promise of well-crafted nostalgia rock: though its tones run strictly in shades of sepia, it defies the kitschy, associated stereotype of music that can be described as “vintage.” DeMarco is just a Garbage Pail kid with a penchant for throwback guitar sound—a promise on which this performance will surely deliver.
