Design firm AvroKO’s new restaurant venture, Double Crown, is something of an edible, imbibe-able history lesson on the British Empire, with drinks and dishes that function as Eastern appropriations of English fare. Adjacent cocktail lounge Madam Geneva simplifies the theme for after-work and late-night crowds. A friendly tip: unless you’re ordering wine, Geneva’s a less-than-ideal first date spot, as you’ll eschew getting-to-know-you conversation for hey-you’ve-got-some-orange-peel-stuck-to-your-lip alerts. Inside, Madam Geneva feels casually elegant, with lace-printed walls and faux-animal skin banquettes. Leafy plants and metal accordion gates break up the open space, turning what could have been a vertigo-inducing room into an intimate spot. For those sick of the minimalist, prohibition-themed bars so ubiquitous in the city, Geneva offers much to gaze upon, delight in, and chat about as you try to spoonfeed yourself from a highball glass.-Andrea Rosen
