Both artists address our daily encounters with nature in mediated and unpredictable urban environments. Whitney Barnes’ installation consists of a simulated vertical garden, though even this simulation incorporates organic elements, problematizing the facile binary between nature and artifice. Pokorny approaches the same false binary differently, creating purposefully unconvincing sculptures of familiar objects to make them underline their strangeness.
