The ear-damaging darlings of this year’s CMJ festival return, as the super-heavy Toronto punks METZ boomerang back to the city still touring their Sub Pop debut (which happens to be one of the year’s best). Though it’s hard to ignore the noise levels, there are sneaky melodies underneath, reminiscent of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s broken-pop approach though the aggressive end results might actually be closer to The Jesus Lizard. Local post-punks Hunters open and are always good, thrash-y fun.
