What began as a grassroots stage show and means to laugh at the shared experience of adolescence has become a pop culture phenomenon of sorts with a line of books and merchandise to boot. It is, after all, a genius idea: Adults get up in front of an audience and share the journals, letters, poems, stories, home movies and song lyrics they wrote when they were awkward, braces-faced teens.
