Brock Fetch
The This-is-More-Than-Nightlife Photographer
Brock Fetch is on his shit. Not only has he toured with one of Our 25 Under 25 subjects, A$AP Rocky, this photographer (who “lives everywhere”) made his name snapping Brooklyn subculture stars like Venus X, Iggy Azalea and Ninjasonik before they were even buzzy. He has the attention and admiration of Juxtapoz (as its staff photographer) and the alternative-culture-focused Superchief because not only does he deliver the goods in 35mm and Polaroid, he also befriends his subjects and the artists he depicts—if they’re not friends already. For Brock, photography isn’t mere voyeurism.
What do you try to capture in your shots?
I just try to catch a moment somebody in that room will want to remember someday.
Best night you ever shot, and why?
The nights I’m not out are the best nights.
What are you looking forward to shooting this fall?
Rocky and I are shooting a couple things soon. Basel is in the works. Asher’s hitting the road soon, so that will keep me busy, too.
Favorite Brooklyn-based party or venue to shoot? And just to attend?
Death By Audio. You got Edan and Gavin there and the shows are always good.
Favorite nightlife act?
Musicians.
How do you prepare for a night out (and, do you have a shooting uniform)?
I load a backpack up with cameras, film, batteries, and I go. No uniform. Ever.
How do you recuperate (especially with those time-sensitive turnarounds)?
I finally sleep and eat. It’s hard for me to do either when I’m working. Even when on the road.
