The "Afropop" tag that would normally get tossed at a group of white dudes playing music that cross-pollinates across continents doesn't quite cut it in this case. Fool's Gold, you see, has both feet planted in West African rhythms and beats with inklings of Western indie-pop thrown in as a mere afterthought. Their real accomplishment, however, is conveying African music's full-of-life exuberance to us American drones. We suck.
