Life Size Maps
The “noise pop” tag on Life Size Maps’ Bandcamp page isn’t heresy, though the Columbia grads—like another whip-smart indie-rock band with Ivy League roots—twist their compositions into a million moving parts to achieve “noise,” rather than injecting them with feedback and dissonance. The now Brooklyn-based band works songs up into an euphoric whirl; starry glitches and odd instrumentation (a coil spring from a car’s suspension system, for instance) shoot across tangled guitars and clattering percussion. The result may be a sensory overload but, miraculously, never discord.
