Pablo Picasso most famously invoked the uncanny forms of African masks in perhaps the most famous Modern painting, Les demoiselles d'Avignon, but he's hardly the first or last. In this globe-trotting thematic show the Met brings together works by Modern and contemporary artists from three continents that take up the mask motif in a spectacular survey spanning several major curatorial departments.
