Rosemary Laing: a dozen useless actions for grieving blondes

Tuesdays-Saturdays. Continues through June 20 2009
212-315-0470

The Australian photographer’s pink-hued portraits bring viewers into uncomfortable contact with fragments of extreme grief and sorrow. Each image features a blond female figure in some stage of emotional breakdown – whether sobbing, staring in shock, hand-wringing or screaming in desperation. Laing’s title coldly underlines these ritualized behaviors’ futility, extreme reactions to events that are already decided.
