"Royal Trux," Pigeons

Sat., Dec. 8, 8 p.m. 2012; $20-$25

There’s an interesting paradox in Royal Trux’s music, a crazed chaos often conceived from an exacting conceptual framework. Reinterpreting whole decades of pop music through a cracked lens was, like, their whole thing. So, this one-off show, a performance of 1990s Twin Infinitives record by “Royal Trux”—i.e., bandleader Neil Hagerty with a bunch of twentysomething look-alikes filling out the band’s 1988 lineup—makes sense as a warped riff on the reunion cash-ins endemic among Trux’s 90s alt-rock peers. If you can't really recapture the glory of youth, why not make a mockery of the attempt?
