Set in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a nation whose open wounds bare testament to the civil war that ravaged every sector of its society all too recently, this year’s big winner at the Obies explores a woman’s charity, and possible exploitative enterprise. A businesswoman who runs a shelter for women seems a perfect symbol for a healing nation, but she may simply be using her pensioners’ vulnerability to her own advantage.
