If this moment, right now, has a spokesartist, a museum-and collector-adored figure whose work speaks not only to this moment in contemporary art history but a much broader and perpetually evolving current condition, it's L.A.-based Texan Ryan Trecartin, whose first solo show at an NYC museum (he's only 31!) includes seven of his demented YouTube-on-helium videos shown in elaborate installations full of weird, vaguely nostalgic and slightly tacky furniture.
