Should Don Imus Have Been Fired?

A rich, powerful old white guy with a huge platform said some very offensive things about young black women. Then he was fired. We didn’t really like him in the first place. This is what the bartenders of your fair city have to say.

I think he should have been fired — absolutely. I think everyone who says that sort of thing is wrong. Even the rappers.

There’s no way I’m giving you a quote on that.

I think it’s bullshit. What’s next? Are they going to start censoring what people say in music and art now? I question why Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson haven’t gotten fired for the things they’ve said, why people at Hot 97 haven’t gotten fired for things they’ve said. It’s good you’re going out and getting people’s opinions on this.

Yeah, absolutely. I think it was definitely the right move to fire him. Basically, you can’t just say whatever. You can be sorry for what you said and still have to face the consequences. I’m tired of apologies.

I don’t like Imus to begin with, so I think he should be off the air anyway. He definitely shouldn’t have said what he said. But for me anything that he would have done to get kicked off the air would have been fine with me. He could have gotten kicked off for jaywalking and it would have been fine with me.

No way, he definitely shouldn’t have been fired — freedom of speech. It was obnoxious, you could say racist, mean — but he’s a comedy guy. He shouldn’t have been fired for it — people say that sort of stuff all the time — look at Howard Stern. No, he was bowing to the PC gods. Personally, I don’t like the guy, but he shouldn’t have been fired.
