This murder mystery shifts between its present-day storyteller — a screenwriter who fled Hollywood and finds inspiration in an old house in upstate New York — and the two spinsterish stepsisters who lived there 60 years ago and may or may not have been serial killers. In both times, though, the surreal, multimedia-augmented small-town setting offers both reprieve and stifling confinement.
