In elementary school, I’d pair my peanut butter sandwich with Capri Sun, even though it took me a good thirty seconds to poke that skinny straw in the tiny foil-covered hole. In junior high I went with Barbeque Fritos and a can of Minute Maid apple juice. And in high school? Well, until I noticed my growing bottom, I indulged in a combo of mini chocolate donuts and Sprite.
This has made me realize something about how I choose my drink these days: out of necessity, as in, “I’m so dehydrated. I need water.” But enough with that. I’ve decided to slow down and sip something delightful with my midday meal once in a while. Are you with me,
people?
Here’s a recipe for Spiked Citrus Sweet Tea to get you started. It takes a little prep work, but it’s worth it.
Steep two orange pekoe tea bags in two cups of boiling water for five minutes. Throw out the bags and refrigerate tea until cold. Stir in a ½ cup of sugar, two tablespoons of orange juice, one tablespoon of lime juice and one tablespoon of lemon juice. Stir until the sugar dissolves and refrigerate overnight. The next day, fill a thermos with the sweet tea and one shot of orange-flavored vodka. At lunchtime, add ice, shake well and enjoy.
