Long relegated to the twin ghettos of folk art and arts & crafts, textiles have only become a respected contemporary art medium relatively recently, and these seven artists continue to explode its conventional uses while also subjecting other materials to processes like sewing and quilting. Most impressive may be Zoë Sheehan Saldaña's "Shopdropping" series, for which she purchases mass-produced items of clothing, produces handmade copies in her studio, and then places her duplicate in the store where the original was bought.
