241 S. 4th Street, Williamsburg

From the owners of Traif, this dimly lighted date spot (pronounced “shiksa”) puts a worldly spin on Mexican cuisine. For instance, the elegant, boldly flavored elotes swap out ears of corn for charred and caramelized carrots, which are topped with honey butter, lime crema, coriander, feta and dill. Signature bebidas include surprisingly smooth mescal served with smoked salt and grapefruit wedges.

112 Harrison Place, Bushwick

From the shaking beef (tender cubes of filet mignon brightened with lime, salt and pepper) to the ample vegetarian options (such as wok-sautéed eggplant rich with coconut, curry and lemongrass), this cozy little Vietnamese spot serves up the most vibrant flavors in the borough. Falansai’s warm staff and inspired wine list make it the kind of place we want to visit again and again—and again!
