#6 Red Hook Winery’s Brusco
Tart, fruity and fizzy, part of the fun of this sparkling red is that it’s so rare to find anywhere outside of Brooklyn. Since the carbonated wine (made in the style of a lambrusco) isn’t distributed in bottles it’s only on draft in local bars. Something else to toast to: Winemaker Christopher Nicolson uses a blend of North Fork, Long Island-grown grapes to produce this effervescent elixir in the aptly named Red Hook-based winery.
From early Dutch settlers in the 1600s straight through to Brooklyn Brewery, Sixpoint and lots of exciting newcomers, New Yorkers sure have done a lot of drinking.
