There is a Ryan Adams song called “Dear Chicago” with the line “I’ve been thinking some of suicide, but there’s bars out here for miles.” It’s perhaps not the healthiest perspective you could have on things, but it certainly speaks volumes about the healing powers of communal drinking, whether it’s in the saddest of sad old man bars, the most tastefully decorated new spot for high-end cocktails, or anything in between. We love them all, but these are the ones we love the most right now.
