The Art of Nonfiction: Michael Chabon

Thu., Oct. 8, 7 p.m. 2009

In his short stories, criticism, and major and minor novels, Chabon has used Boy's Own reference points — baseball, pop culture, comics, adventure and mystery genres — to make sense of heady themes, like sexual self-knowledge, Jewish identity and the formation of 20th century America. It makes perfect sense that his new collection of linked autobiographical essays is called Manhood for Amateurs: The Pleasures and Regrets of a Husband, Father, and Son; he'll read from it and discuss it tonight.
