#8 Sixpoint Mad Scientists Series Cacao Husk Stout
Every other month, something strange flows from the Red Hook-based Sixpoint brewery. The latest in the bi-monthly series called Mad Scientists is a stout brewed with cacao husks from Mast Brothers chocolate. These cracked, cocoa-smelling shells are available for the taking in large sacks at the Mast Brothers’ Williamsburg factory, and can be found in the composts of local farms like Brooklyn Grange. Props for repurposing this local byproduct in a beer—and a tasty one at that.
From early Dutch settlers in the 1600s straight through to Brooklyn Brewery, Sixpoint and lots of exciting newcomers, New Yorkers sure have done a lot of drinking.
