Geoffrey Rush and director Neil Armfield, the co-founder of Australia's Belvoir Street Theatre, first premiered their adaptation of Gogol's short story by the same name in 1989. Two decades later they're bringing this tale of a small-time civil servant struggling to keep some sense of individuality in 1830s St. Petersburg back at BAM. Rush deploys increasingly manic desperation faced with Gogol's crazy-making bureaucratic satire.
