The fact that frère Friedberger can go on record calling Thom Yorke bogus and the entire indie nation doesn't turn on the Fiery Furnaces speaks volumes about the band. They are the epitome of art-rock weirdos forever willing to take risks with their music, some of which don't always work out. But when they do, as on 2005's EP, it's clear that the Friedberger's are really onto something. And when they don't, it's still fun to see where their inventive minds led them.
