Stephin Merritt: Witty, grumpy and one of the most prolific creators of wry, hit-home indie love songs since 1991. Love at the Bottom of the Sea is his 10th full-length has head of The Magnetic Fields but only the second record in over a decade with label Merge. It also marks the end of the band's vow to not use synths, and the result is a reinvigorated celebration of the Fields' pop sensibilities... and tasteful use of synth in that context. Oh, what we wouldn't give to listen to Merritt serenade the Upper West Side with the album's ode to hot, gender-bending crushes, “Andrew in Drag.”
