German director Thomas Ostermeier makes his return to BAM with Berlin’s Schaubühne after winning Ibsen adaptations in 2004 and 2006, though this time his source material is cinematic. Here he adapts Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s same-titled film from 1979 about a woman in postwar Germany securing herself a comfortable, prosperous life in a fractured country by whatever means she can.
