The Mountain Goats' (aka John Darnielle and whoever he's playing with at the moment) latest album, The Life of the World to Come, is a particularly intense experience, even by Darnielle's customary hyper-intelligent/hyper-emotional standards. You see, it's based on various books of the Bible, so not only do we get songs about the raw pain of watching a loved one whither and die, we also get songs about the end of the entire species. Because, you know, "My God is a Vengeful God" and shit.
