The Sixth Annual New York International Latino Film Festival runs from July 26th through the 31st, celebrating Latino film and community. This year’s event features many exciting New York premieres, ten different themed shorts programs, and a constant flow of Latino features and documentaries playing at four different theaters throughout the city.
Showings are Tuesday night at Regal Cinemas Union Square, 850 Broadway between 13th and 14th Sts; and Wednesday through Saturday at the Florence Gould Hall, 55 E 59th St between Park and Madison Aves; Lighthouse International, 111 E 59th St between Park and Lexington Aves; and the Pioneer Theater, 155 E 3rd St between Avenues A and B. Favela Rising (Jeff Zimbalist, Matt Mochary) 78 min. A former drug-trafficker starts a movement within his Rio slum, using street rhythms and dance to fight oppressive teen drug gangs and a corrupt police force.
