We like our thematic group exhibitions to have a nice balance of unity rooted in sound art theory and entertainment value from the unexpected interplay of different artists addressing the same problem. In this respect, we’ve seldom been so excited as we are about The Storyteller, which independent curators Claire Gilman and Margaret Sundell organized around the subject of narrative in contemporary art. Here, this seemingly amorphous theme is divided into three categories: historical events, like a video recreation by Jeremy Deller and Mike Figgis; works that question our relationship to the past, like pieces by Omer Fast and Lisa Roberts; and fictional narratives by artists like Cao Fei and Mounir Fatmi.
