Thank god there’s yet another place in our already too-quiet lives where we can relax in the gentle glow of a screen, enjoying the useful and amusing advertisements for some of our favorite products and services! And the cabbies, they must just love these things!

It doesn’t work some of the time — the credit card machine. Then what do I do? Wait while people use the ATM. Things were fine before this. You take a cab, you pay in cash. Most of the New Yorkers I drive — they know this. They pay in cash like always. It’s the tourists that always want to use the credit card. Don’t be scared, just give me the cash and things will be fine, eh?

They say in the newspapers tips are better with the credit cards. I disagree. Many people don’t tip at all. But there’s nothing I can do. I just live with it.

I’ve been using it for four or five months now. It’s been pretty good for me. I don’t know about any five percent fee — the company I lease the car from must cover that. As far as I know I’ve been getting all the money as usual. It’s a handy thing — sometimes people don’t have cash. The best thing about it is that you don’t have to keep a log by hand anymore. That’s great. I would always get tickets for not doing that — I try to keep the log, but it’s hard for me, I can’t see that well at night.

Yeah, no one really likes them. It’s the service fee — we have to pay five percent of the fare every time someone uses a credit card. Why should we have to cover that? We have to pay to rent the car and for gas and for any tickets we get, and now this too? That’s why no one likes it. Back before this when only a few cabs had the credit card machines, a lot of guys would just tell people they were broken if they asked to use a credit card. They didn’t want to pay the fee.
