Tim Evans: Population

Wednesdays-Saturdays. Continues through Sept. 11 2010
212-777-7988

In his dark, messy works on paper and canvas, Evans portrays tortured crowds, grumpy-faced Basquiat-ish figures massed in groups yet irrevocably isolated and incapable of profound contact. George Grosz and James Ensor are likely predecessors, although the tortured expressions are more akin to Yue Minjun.
