The New York-based Cleveland native’s large-scale oil paintings are reminiscent of the postmodern neo-figuratives coming out of Germany lately, with images taken from old advertisements and pop culture ephemera rendered with unexpected hues and lines, or completely truncated by random interjections. Here, for instance, the biggest piece is a big red exercise ball in what might be a gym, but beyond the foreground the whole image washes out into a pastel field of overlapping quadrants and sharp yellow lines. Other works are less jarring, but just as engaging.
