Melding drawing, painting and collage, Frey’s work used to be a throwback to organic Art Nouveau forms and carefully rendered hybrid animals, but it appears the L.A. artist is going all-out abstract in her latest work. Here, meticulously cut and colorful strips of paper coalesce into abstract beams zapping across the canvas or building up into mountainous accumulations of saturated tones.
