It can be depressing to contemplate the state of the world; one can feel powerless in the face of all the problems confronting civilization and all the resistance to change. But instead of moping around your dark apartment, why not take a little personal responsibility and act upon your concerns? At the very least it might make you feel better. Or not, which, well, then you drink.

Well, I'm pretty green. I never use paper plates or plastic cups or utensils when entertaining. I also have an energy-saving dishwasher and LED lights. I'm quite green. As for the bar, we don't do too much. We have a very efficient air conditioner, but we don't use it much, as you can tell by how hot it is in here. We mostly use ceiling fans, so I guess we save energy by not using the A/C. We also recycle the beer and alcohol bottles, but there's a lot more we could do. We're thinking about putting solar panels on the roof of the building. We own the building, but I don't know if that will ever happen.

I recycle, I've changed my lights and I unplug stuff when I leave. Not everything, just what I can, like chargers. I've been doing all that for about a year and a half or two years. Something like that. I haven't really thought about what more I can do. [Do you think the government should be encouraging or mandating more eco-friendly actions or products?] I think it's doing that to a point. I think it's a lot more concerned with stuff like the economy right now but I think we'll get there.

I use Seventh Generation stuff — cleaning and laundry products. It's all eco-friendly stuff, no dyes or anything. At the bar, I don't know what we do. I reuse cocktail napkins if I can. They're reusable even if you put a drink on them and they get wet. I'm not sure if we recycle — I just started here, not too long ago — but everyone should recycle more. And the government needs to give tax credits for eco-friendly things: houses, cars, products. It also needs to subsidize green housing projects.

I recycle and save paper a lot, which makes working here hard. I'm green, but I'm not over the top about it. I can tell you I would never date a vegan because I'm a huge carnivore. I've never met a vegan that didn't judge me, so that would be a deal-breaker dating-wise.
