Man, I ain’t got no plans except to drink as much as I can, smoke as much as I can, and work as little as I can. I want to check out that pool in Brooklyn, the one that was such a shit show last year, and see if it’s such a shit show this year. That’s the problem with this city: too crowded and hot. Everyone wants to go to the pool or the beach. I want to, too, just where it isn’t packed.
My wife and I have lived here for a few years, and we’ve talked about doing some of the New York stuff that we haven’t done yet. We haven’t done Ellis Island or the State of Liberty or a lot of museums. We haven’t been to the Met, even. We might do Ellis Island—the summer is a good time for that—but really neither of us are very interested. But it’s a big deal, so we should see it. The museums can wait until the winter.
I work all the time. I don’t have time to play like you. Summer, winter, it’s all the same when you have to work as much as I do. I would work every day if I could, and all the time if I didn’t have to sleep ever. I send money home to my family; when we are together again, then I will relax. Right now, summer is windows open; winter, windows shut.
I think of the summer as the beach, and there aren’t any good beaches in New York. Coney Island is... awful. Just horrible. The others aren’t any better. So summer here is really just it getting really hot and the trash stinking up the place. Last year we did a bunch of rooftop parties that were cool, and some outdoor movie screenings that weren’t bad. Will probably do that again. Or anything to stay cool.
